What is BYO agent? Bring your own AI agent or API keys
BYO agent means connecting your own AI agent or provider API keys to a task tool. What it changes for cost, privacy, and model choice.
BYO agent means bringing your own AI to a task tool instead of paying for the vendor's bundled AI. You add your own API keys, your provider bills you directly, and the product charges nothing for the AI. You get the real cost, and you can switch models without switching products.
What it means
There are two forms. Bring your own keys means you paste an API key from your AI provider (like OpenRouter) into the product's settings. The provider bills you directly at cost. No markup.
Bring your own agent means you point an AI tool you already use, like Claude Code or Cursor, at the product through its API or MCP server. The product supplies the workspace and the tasks. You supply the AI.
Either way, the trade is the same: you manage the keys, but you pay at cost and keep control.
Example
You save your OpenRouter key in Doozy's settings. From that point, every agent run uses your key. OpenRouter bills you directly for what the model costs. Doozy charges nothing for execution. Your monthly AI cost is whatever your provider charges, with no markup on top.
